Overview

Nestled in the heart of Bangkok’s vibrant Chinatown, Lhong Tou Cafe at Yaowarat offers a fresh take on traditional Chinese cuisine through a modern cafe lens. Located at 538 Yaowarat Road, this charming spot gently balances heritage and contemporary style, making it a must-visit for food enthusiasts and culture seekers alike.

The cafe’s culinary highlight is its thoughtfully crafted dim sum, presented as delicate bite-sized treasures served in bamboo steamers. The Chinese New Year Dim Sum Set exemplifies this approach, offering a visually stunning array of sweet and savory pieces that evoke a festive spirit with subtle symbolism, like the soft, citrus-kissed orange cake representing fortune. These mini portions make it ideal for sharing or savoring a variety without overwhelming the palate.

In addition to dim sum, Lhong Tou specializes in classic cafe dishes with a creative twist, including the prawn wonton soup and flavorful rice dishes such as ข้าวหมูกรอบคั่วพริกเกลือ (crispy pork with chili salt) and comforting bowls of rice porridge paired with Chinese-style sides. The smoky richness of the duck breast and the distinct appeal of the Thai milk tea variant, infused with the iconic butterfly pea flower, add layers of local flavor while appealing visually—a dynamic experience for both eyes and taste buds.

The interior is an Instagrammer’s delight, blending modern Chinese aesthetics with whimsical seating arrangements like stacked chairs that invite exploration and discovery within a compact urban space. This clever design complements the food’s presentation, enhancing the overall sensory experience.

Service strikes a good balance between friendly and efficient, catering well to the steady flow of visitors who come for the unique food and inviting atmosphere. While some interactions may vary, the warm kitchen team’s dedication to quality shines through each dish.

Lhong Tou Cafe is perfect for those who appreciate culinary craftsmanship with a cultural nod—whether you are a local, a curious traveler, or a foodie aiming to capture a blend of tradition and modern culinary art. It’s a mindful spot to enjoy comforting Chinese-inspired fare reimagined for today’s cafe culture, all within the bustling charm of Chinatown.

Instagrammable cute little cafe that serves cafe style dim sum and rice dishes. Bouncy fried BBQ pork bun and fluffy orange cake. Interesting interior set up and lovely staff.

We ordered the dim sum set, and I absolutely loved the presentation. Each item was bite-sized, so the portions were on the smaller side, but the variety of sweet and savory items made up for it. For the price and presentation, it’s a definite 10/10. We also tried the blue pea drink, which was served with lime juice, perfect for video-taking since the color changes once the lime juice is added. I also appreciate the creative interior design of the café, with seats stacked above each other, adding a unique touch to the atmosphere.

I had an amazing dining experience at Lhong Tou Cafe in Yaowarat (Bangkok Chinatown)! The presentation alone is worth the visit — the food is served beautifully in bamboo steamers, creating a really unique and charming vibe. I tried the breakfast set with rice porridge, and it came with a delicious assortment of Chinese-style side dishes like braised mushrooms, pickled veggies, pork floss, sausage, and more. Every item was flavorful and thoughtfully prepared. You can really tell they put effort into both taste and visual appeal. The cafe itself has a trendy, modern Chinese aesthetic — perfect for foodies and Instagram lovers. Staff were friendly and service was quick, despite the cafe being busy. Highly recommend if you’re in Chinatown and want a creative spin on classic Chinese comfort food. A must-visit spot!

My favourite go to spot whenever I'm staying in Chinatown during my trips. The crunchiness of the Shrimp Wanton is divine, the mala prawn gyoza is nice and juicy. Tried their mala Chicken for the first time and it was nice to pair with the salted egg yolks and rice porridge or eat it on its own. Duck with rice porridge is always a win for me no matter what. Everything was good, just wished one of the waitresses was friendlier, she didn't look pleased to serve which was a shame. Thank you for the food team! Always a pleasure!

Mini bites, big joy! A dim sum experience with festive flair. I tried the Happy New Year Dim Sum set at LhongTou Café (Yaowarat branch) — and it was such a delightful surprise. The set comes in a round bamboo tray, packed with tiny, delicate dim sum pieces, all neatly arranged like edible art. It’s not just a meal — it’s a photo op and a celebration! I was a little unsure about the orange cake (sometimes it can be overly sweet), but this one? Soft, citrusy, and surprisingly balanced. Fun tip: Orange symbolizes fortune during Chinese New Year — no wonder it’s part of the set! If you’re not a big eater or just love cute portions, this is the perfect spot. Also, highly recommend the iced lemon tea — super refreshing and pairs so well with the whole set. Great for: Foodie photos Chinese New Year feels Sharing something unique with friends Just don’t expect huge portions — but you will leave with a happy heart (and lucky belly)!

This café took the dessert scene by storm when it first opened, quickly gaining viral attention. Nestled in the heart of Chinatown, Bangkok, its unique seating arrangement maximizes capacity, with an intriguing twist: diners who wish to sit in the upper section must climb a steep, narrow staircase—definitely not for the faint of heart or unsteady on their feet! While the food is artistically presented, the flavors don’t offer much in terms of surprises. Overall, it’s the quirky dining experience that truly makes this spot worth a visit.

Went on 18 May 2019. Interesting cafe, with unique novel food and seatings (some need to climb up).
